Read these five tips for an excellent family road trip
Ask the kids where they want to go, what they want to do and you may just be pleasantly surprised! The more involvement kids have in planning, the more rewarding it will be when you finally arrive at your destination. Some fun planning activities: Make a list of their favourite outdoor activities and research together on the internet; create a holiday board and cut out pictures from magazines and newspapers of your chosen destination; count down your departure on the calendar.
Nothing is worse than lugging around bags and bags of clothes that you won’t use over your holiday. Write a list, review and pack!
Keep the kids occupied on the drive with interactive games, audio books and dvds. If it’s a long drive leave late in the evening or very early morning and they may just sleep the entire drive.
Prepare for the drive and pack some healthy snacks and drinks. Remember to stop often and if it helps do some research on finding the nearest toilet stops. Take the time to experience a few locations along the route instead of rushing to the destination.
Before you arrive at your destination, phone through to Concierge and ask for the best local tips around. Research local blogs on any special events during the time you are visiting. When you arrive ask the Receptionist what their favourite family activity is to do or whether there are any local restaurants that cater specifically to children.
And finally a travel mantra to live by – embrace adventure and explore new places
